The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) is dedicated to eradicating the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS through comprehensive education. We envision a more inclusive world where HIV/AIDS stigma is eliminated.
HIV/AIDS-related stigma devalues those living with or associated with the disease. This stigma prevents individuals from seeking help, affects their confidence, and can lead to loss of employment, dignity, or even life. Many avoid acknowledging their HIV status due to fear, creating a more intimidating environment than the disease itself. Negative attitudes and discriminatory behaviors often result in the denial of essential services or entitlements, impacting access to healthcare and the overall quality of life for those living with HIV/AIDS.
Our workers, communities and trade unionists have fought tirelessly for free and accessible healthcare in Ontario. Their dedication has ensured that everyone can get tested and treated for HIV/AIDS without fear or stigma. The OFL recognizes the critical importance of this work and the need for further support. We acknowledge the efforts of healthcare professionals, community workers, and advocates who provide essential services through organizations such as the Ontario HIV Treatment Network (OHTN), AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT), and community health centers across the province.
However, we see the work that still needs to be done and call on our provincial government to provide increased support for public services, educational efforts, and expanded testing and treatment services. Ensuring adequate funding and resources is crucial to maintaining and expanding the reach of these vital programs. We also call for the implementation of stronger policies to protect the rights of individuals living with HIV/AIDS and to ensure non-discriminatory practices in all sectors.
As the House of Labour representing one million workers, we urge you to join us in supporting initiatives, public services, and educational efforts to end the stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS, find our list of immediate actions here. By working together, we can create a more inclusive, equitable, and healthier community for all.

The U=U campaign (Undetectable = Untransmittable) is a global initiative that promotes the message that people living with HIV who achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load through antiretroviral therapy (ART) cannot sexually transmit the virus to others. This campaign is crucial in combating the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS by educating the public and reducing fear and discrimination towards those living with HIV.
