Solidarity with Postal Workers, your fight is our fight

The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) issued the following letter to Jan Simpson, Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) on August 14, 2025. Download the letter here.

Dear Jan Simpson,

On behalf of 54 unions and over one million workers, the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) joins CUPW members in your fight against Canada Post’s attacks and the federal government’s interference in your bargaining rights.

Postal workers deliver more than mail. They provide good union jobs and keep communities running – ensuring medications, paycheques, parcels and vital communications reach every corner of the country. That work deserves respect, not political interference or corporate schemes to weaken unions. Since December 2024, you have faced a paused legal strike, an imposed contract extension, a meaningless Industrial Inquiry Commission, and a forced vote on the employer’s “final offer” over your union’s objections.

CUPW members answered with unity, rejecting those offers. In your last negotiations, you put forward bold proposals to expand services, improve operations, and protect jobs for generations to come. In return, Canada Post responded by undermining hard-fought gains and job security.

You are not alone in this fight. The voice of our one million workers will join 55,000 postal workers to force Canada Post back to good-faith negotiations and demand the federal government end its interference by ruling out back-to-work legislation and imposed votes once and for all.

CUPW postal workers, you have always led the way on victories that changed the lives of workers across Canada, proving what is possible when unions fight and win. Your fight is our fight.

 In solidarity,

Laura Walton

President, Ontario Federation of Labour
