Ontario NDP delegates are ‘all in’ for change, with Marit Stiles Primed to Deliver a True Workers’ Agenda in Ontario

The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) joined unions and labour councils from across the province at this past weekend’s Ontario NDP (ONDP) convention in Niagara Falls.

Delegates came together to set a workers’ agenda and prepare the party to win—by advancing the priorities of working people at Queen’s Park, taking on Doug Ford’s Conservatives, and ensuring workers have a real voice in government.

“Workers need a voice in Ontario and are looking for change. The OFL believes that the Ontario NDP is the workers’ party to deliver that change, and we support Marit Stiles in her recognition – that change is needed. Workers deserve their voices to be centered in our party and in government”, said OFL President Laura Walton.

Delegates recognized that to win, the ONDP must lead with policies that matter to working people.

United across construction, public and private sector unions, alongside First Nations delegates, environmental activists, young workers, and the ONDP caucus, the convention passed a modernized nuclear energy policy that supports a low-carbon future with more, good, unionized jobs.

That commitment begins with meaningful engagement with First Nations, ensuring free, prior, and informed consent, that creates real opportunities for partnership with Indigenous communities.

“As New Democrats, we must champion energy policies that are progressive, forward-looking and rooted in fairness. That means defending public ownership and ensuring First Nations are true partners in shaping this future,” added Walton.

Delegates also backed ultra-low emissions electricity—including hydro, renewables, made-in-Canada nuclear, and storage—while reaffirming support for public ownership of electricity generation.

“The ONDP recognizes the strategic importance of ultra-low emissions electricity to Ontario’s economy and environment,” Walton said. “Our party, the NDP, has shown it is committed to making sure the benefits of investment, innovation, and supply chain jobs stay in Ontario and across Canada.”

The Ontario Federation of Labour represents 54 unions and one million workers in Ontario. It is the largest provincial labour federation in Canada. Visit OFL.ca and follow @OFLabour on FacebookTwitterInstagram, and TikTok.
