The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL)’s occupational disability prevention project – Prevention Link is seeking to fill the position of Director, Finance and Operations. The Director, Finance and Operations will lead Prevention Link’s finance and operational requirements and assist with financial and operational requirements for the administrating body of the project, the Ontario Federation of Labour. The successful candidate will begin in January 2025, and report to the President of the OFL, through the OFL’s General Secretary.
The qualified candidate must have:
- 6-10 years of relevant finance and operations experience, particularly in a leadership role;
- Experience with preparation of an annual budget;
- Attention to detail, reliable, and hardworking;
- Experience with and knowledge of audit requirements;
- An enthusiastic attitude;
- The ability to provide strategic advice and to analyze accounting and workplace processes and make recommendations for improvements and streamlining;
- The ability to work independently, with little supervision;
- Good communication skills and problem solving skills;
- The ability to coordinate an office and staff;
- The ability to learn new software as needed;
- Previous experience in a union or not-for-profit environment is an asset;
- A drivers’ license and car, and
- Previous experience working in a trade union or not-for-profit environment.
The successful candidate will oversee a variety of areas related to Prevention Link’s finance and operational efforts, including:
- Under the direction of the General Secretary, working with other staff to create project and program event and general budgets;
- Assist with financial and operational requirements for both the OFL and Prevention Link.
- Support the yearly audit processes;
- Provide documentation and support for yearly audits;
- Continuously review administrative processes and procedures to improve and ensure efficiencies and effectiveness;
- Advise on investments and accounts;
- Oversee the collection of project registration fees, per capita fees, grants and revenue;
- Review all journal entries;
- Evaluate project costs and provide ad hoc analysis as required;
- Develop regular and special reports on vendors, projects and events as required;
- Provide support and assist the General Secretary, and Secretary Treasurer in the preparation of reports to the Executive Board and Executive Committee, and project funder;
- Provide insight into finances and operations;
- Respond as required to requests from the Officers, the General Secretary or their designate, and provide regular reporting on key expenditures; and
- Other duties as assigned.
General Accounting:
- Maintain the chart of accounts;
- Oversee all financial and accounting records;
- Maintain asset records and reports, including inventory and investments;
- Review invoices and payments for approval by the General Secretary;
- Facilitate the proper filing of project GST/HST and or any regulatory requirements.
Full-time position, working out of the Federation of Labour office in North York, Toronto. The successful candidate is covered under the COPE 343 Collective Agreement, with a weekly salary of $2,646.70 or $137,628.40 annually, including COLA plus benefits.
