Job Not Done: Demand Stronger Training Standards

The Ontario Federation of Labour is calling on the Ontario Government to implement four priority training standards recommended by the Expert Panel on Health and Safety. These four priority training standards would ensure:

  • people who work with and around hazardous chemicals can use WHMIS labels and sheets to protect their health and safety;
  • health and safety representatives have the skills and knowledge to improve their workplace conditions;
  • everyone doing work at heights knows how to use the right protections and fall protection equipment; and
  • workers on construction sites get hazard awareness training before they start work.

Briefly, tell us your story about why you support the OFL’s priorities for stronger training standards. Here’s some examples of personal stories:

  • “I’m a health and safety representative in a workplace of 12 people. Training will help me be more effective preventing workmates’ injuries and illnesses.”
  • “I work with chemicals all the time – my employer provides quality WHMIS training, but I see what so many other workers get, and it’s scary and terrible.”
  • “At my company, we regularly work at heights. To be safe, we need the same training that has brought down injury rates in the construction sector.”
  • “When I first worked at a construction site, I got no training about the hazards. Workers deserve better.”
