OPSEU/SEFPO college workers are preparing for a province-wide strike beginning at 12:01 a.m. this Thursday, September 11, in a last-ditch effort to protect Ontario’s public colleges.
Public colleges are the backbone of Ontario’s economy — training local workers, filling skilled labour gaps, and supporting key industries like manufacturing, health care, and hospitality. They reduce poverty, drive employment, and strengthen communities across the province. But instead of funding this vital and strategic public system, the Ontario government is manufacturing a crisis by:
- Defunding public colleges on absolute and per student basis
- Handing millions to private training companies through the Skills Development Fund (SDF) with no accountability to privatize public education
It’s time to restore fair funding to colleges, stop program closures and layoffs, save our public college system!
Their fights are linked— we welcome your solidarity, especially on the first day of their strike this Thursday. Our members would truly appreciate your presence on the lines with your flags and fellow activists.
