This shameful decision ignores the urgent testimony of survivors and frontline workers who made clear that action is essential to save lives. The Ford government has once again failed Ontario women and gender-diverse people by refusing to properly fund and resource the supports needed to combat gender-based violence and intimate partner violence.
Instead of investing in the social infrastructure that women and gender-diverse people rely on, such as affordable child care, community services, and public sector programs, the Ford government continues to ignore the urgent need for action.
Women’s economic security is a key to safety, yet this government continues to neglect its responsibility to strengthen it or pay care workers, who are disproportionately women, what they’re worth. Gender-based violence is a crisis, and this government’s failure to act is unacceptable.
The OFL and the workers of Ontario demand urgent action, stronger funding, and real investment in women’s safety and economic security. We will not stop until gender-based violence and intimate partner violence are eradicated in this province.
We will continue to work alongside MPP Gilmour and the Ontario NDP to push for comprehensive action: declaring IPV an epidemic, strengthening social infrastructure, and ensuring economic security for women. This fight is at the heart of the OFL’s Women Power Work campaign because women power Ontario’s workforce, and they deserve safety, dignity, and fair pay.
Ontario deserves a government that prioritizes ending violence, not perpetuating it through neglect. Join us in this fight. Speak out. Organize. Demand action. Together, we can build an Ontario where every woman and gender-diverse person is safe, supported, and respected.
