Stop Bill 33

The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) is calling on the Ford government to immediately rescind the undemocratic Bill 33 and invest in what truly makes schools safe: smaller class sizes, more staff, and fully funded public education.

This bill does nothing to address the real causes of school violence and unsafe classrooms, chronic underfunding, overloaded staff, and systemic inequities. Instead, it doubles down on surveillance and punishment.

We believe in an education system rooted in justice, dignity, and care, not control.

Defending Democracy in Education

Bill 33 is an attack on local democracy. It strips decision-making power from locally elected school boards and centralizes control in the hands of Queen’s Park cutting out the voices of parents, educators, students, and communities.

This move silences those who know their community schools best. We believe schools should be shaped by the people who live, work, and learn in them, not by politicians far removed from the realities on the ground.

Public Education Is a Public Good

The OFL is committed to defending a high-quality, publicly funded and administered education system- one that serves every student, no matter their income, background, or postal code.

Education is not a commodity. It’s a right. Workers will always fight to protect and strengthen public education for the future of our children and communities. Every student deserves equitable access to the same high standard of education with all the resources needed to truly succeed.

Victory Is Possible

On July 31, 2025, the OFL stood with Policing-Free Schools Ontario at Queen’s Park to demand the repeal of Bill 33.

Shortly after, Toronto Police Services announced they will not reinstate School Resource Officers (SROs).

This is a clear win, and proof that organizing works.
