The Ontario government has been shut down while workers’ rights are under threat and public service cuts are hurting every community.

The 2012 Ontario Budget cuts will cost many their jobs and many more their livelihoods while banks and corporations are being allowed to reap record profits at the public expense.

This fall, McGuinty’s Liberals were backed by Tim Hudak’s Progressive Conservatives in passing Bill 115 – an unprecedented law stripping educational workers of their most basic democratic rights. This will threatens the rights of every worker in Ontario.

Add your voice to the growing number of Ontarians who are calling on the Ontario Government to restore equality by investing in services that support Ontario families, fairly taxing profitable corporations and protecting the democratic rights of everyone.

Send a message to your Member of Provincial Parliament and the leaders of each of Ontario’s political parties.

Make Equality and Democracy Ontario's Priorities

I am writing to express my concern about the growing inequality in Ontario and the attack on democratic rights of workers. The Ontario government's 'austerity' agenda of cuts to good jobs and vital services and the recent attack on workers' rights through Bill 115 will have a devastating impact on every community.

Recent national reports have demonstrated that Ontarians are falling behind and Ontario's support for social programs - including health care to education - is dead last of all the provinces in Canada. As a result, 40 percent of Ontarians - over 600,000 families - are struggling with incomes that are stagnant or declining and Ontario's poverty rates are rising faster than almost every other province.

Ontario's 2012 Budget exacerbated this growing inequity by maintaining corporate tax cuts that continue bleed the province of more than $15 billion annually while delivering hundreds of cuts that hurt every family. These cuts will have the most devastating impact on the poorest and most marginalized Ontarians and are the biggest obstacle to our collective economic recovery.

I am calling on you and your party to restore fairness to Ontario and support the people of Ontario by:

- Reconvening the Legislature;
- Repealing Bill 115 and protecting the rights of all workers;
- Restoring funding for Ontario's social programs;
- Investing in meaningful poverty reduction;
- Developing a comprehensive jobs creation strategy; and
- Introducing fair taxation levels for banks and corporations.
