OFL Thanks Andrea Horwath for Fighting for Working People at Queen’s Park

As leader of the Ontario NDP since 2009, Andrea Horwath has been a dedicated voice for working people at Queen’s Park. The Ontario Federation of Labour is grateful for her work defending public services, advocating for workers’ rights, and demanding better for people in Ontario.

Under Andrea’s leadership, the Ontario NDP formed the Official Opposition in 2018. That year, the NDP gained more seats in the Ontario Legislature than they had since the 1990s. It was a critical time to have an Official Opposition that was ready to fight for working people. As Ford’s Conservatives scrapped the minimum wage increase, eliminated permanent paid sick days, and trampled on workers’ constitutional right to free and fair collective bargaining with Bill 124, Andrea Horwath and the Ontario NDP fought back.

While Ontario faced the harrowing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic under a Conservative Premier that preferred to protect profit over people, Andrea Horwath repeatedly held Doug Ford to account. She demanded Ford’s Conservatives heed the advice of the Science Advisory Table, invest in public health care, and take the profit out of long-term care.

Thank you, Andrea, for your commitment to demanding better for working people in Ontario. We will continue to hold Ford’s Conservative government to account, fight for social justice, and protect and expand workers’ rights.

In solidarity,

Patty Coates
President
