There was a full house at the Gore Meadows Community Centre for the Brampton and Mississauga Assembly for Decent Work, a workshop on lobbying MPPs for fair employment laws.
Former federal MP Olivia Chow led over 200 participants, teaching the skills needed to successfully lobby their MPPs. Workshop participants practiced telling their stories to illustrate the changes that are needed for Ontario’s employment and labour law to support Ontario workers.
The Ontario government is reviewing its employment and labour laws, and workers across the province know that changes are needed to win fair standards for all Ontario workers.
“The attendance and engagement at this weekend’s assembly shows very clearly that Ontarians are ready for the government to amend its laws to create fair workplace standards for all Ontarians,” said OFL Vice-President Ahmad Gaied, who spoke at the event. “Workers in this province need to be able to easily join and keep a union. They need things like paid sick days, fair notice on work schedules, and equal pay and conditions for temp workers.”
The Changing Workplaces Review looks at all aspects of Ontario’s employment laws.
The Make It Fair campaign is encouraging all Ontarians to let their MPPs know what they want to see from the Changing Workplaces Review.

The OFL’s www.MakeItFair.ca campaign takes on issues of inequality in the workforce, and coincides with the province’s “Changing Workplaces Review.” The campaign gives voice to unions’ demands for across-the-board changes to the Employment Standards Act and the Labour Relations Act that would improve standards for every worker and make it easier for them to join a union.
