Support for Fresh Taste Workers – Day of Action on May 5 at 7 a.m.

Thursday’s solidarity rally has been cancelled because the Fresh Taste Produce workers won their first contract on Tuesday, May 3, 2016!

Many congratulations to Teamsters Local Union 419 and the many community and labour supporters who swung in behind this group courageous Tibetan workers to help them fight for fairness.

However, it shouldn’t be this hard to get a union! Join the campaign to fight for sweeping changes to Ontario labour laws to #MakeItFair for everyone!

This is an urgent appeal for support for Ontario Food Terminal workers at Fresh Taste produce distributors, who are on strike for their first collective agreement. This courageous group of 12 Tibetan workers started their strike action on April 21, after joining Teamsters Local 419 in November.

Several have worked at Fresh Taste for as many as 19 years and still earn between $14-$17 an hour, while the industry standard is $20 and higher. These workers, many of whom are refugees, have also been subject to harassment, bullying and racial discrimination.

The OFL is supporting a Day of Action for Fresh Taste workers – please encourage all members in the GTA to come out to this important solidarity rally on Thursday, May 5 at 7 a.m.

Parking is available in the neighbouring Sobey’s grocery store, on the east side of the Ontario Food Terminal. Please bring your flags – we want a strong showing of support from our labour community for these newly unionized workers.

I am also calling on all unions ask their members to take some time to support this picket line between now and next Thursday. Supplies will also be very much appreciated. Let’s rally around these workers so that they win their strike and get the justice they deserve!

Strike support donations can be made to:
