For the first time in two decades, the Government of Ontario is reviewing both
the Employment Standards Act and the Labour Relations Act.
This process, titled the ‘Changing Workplaces Review,’ is looking at how to
tackle the rampant growth in precarious work. The review represents a oncein-
a-generation opportunity to make major changes that would help raise the
bar for all workers in the province.
As a movement, we have an incredible chance to make the sweeping changes
workers need to see, that would make it easier to join and keep a union, to get
a first contract and resolve disputes, to win paid sick days and vacation, secure decent hours of work and stop the misclassification of work. We also need to end exemptions that preclude some workers from having rights under the law.
We are asking you to add your voice to this vital discussion by lobbying your
local MPP.
It’s time to make it fair.
This kit is designed to assist your lobby efforts in your community. All evidence points to the fact that elected officials are most persuaded by pressure from the people who elect them.
All MPPs, but Liberal MPPs in particular must better understand the challenges
facing workers in today’s labour market. Together, we also want to create the sense of urgency and opportunity to make meaningful changes to improve the conditions of work for millions of workers, including those who live in your community.
Thank you for participating in this campaign!
In solidarity,
Chris Buckley
