The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) along with working people across our province mourn the passing of Ed Broadbent, a prominent, principled leader and stalwart of social justice in Canada. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends, sending them our thoughts and heartfelt sympathies.
Today, Ontario’s House of Labour bids farewell to a great Canadian, Ed Broadbent, former Member of Parliament in Oshawa, and leader of the New Democratic Party of Canada from 1975 to 1989.
Ed’s passing is a huge loss to our entire NDP family and for progressive politics in Canada. Yet, his legacy lives on in all those who knew him and have benefited from his commitment to making Canada a better place. Ed, known as Canada’s greatest Prime-Minister we never had, championed workers issues at every opportunity, advancing social justice and equality in Canada and beyond.
As we remember and honour the legacy of Ed Broadbent, we pay tribute to his remarkable contributions to the fabric of Canada, our labour movement, social democracy, and the global fight for equality.
