After over a year at the bargaining table, Queen’s has aggressively escalated its attempts to push Postdocs into accepting an inadequate contract. As of October 26, Queen’s has requested and received a “No Board Report,” which would allow the university to legally lock out all Queen’s Postdocs as early as 12:01 am, on November 12th.
Not only is this a shocking show of disrespect for Postdoctoral scholars, but it would also be an unprecedented move. It is our understanding that this would be the first time in Canadian research history that any employer – public or private sector – has ever locked out Postdocs.
In response and in anticipation of a potential lockout, we urge you to show your support and demand Queen’s work with Postdocs to negotiate a contract that reflects the dignity, respect, and fair wages we all deserve.
If you are local to Kingston, we would also appreciate your presence on campus on Tuesday, November 12th at 12:00. If the university has its way, this may be the first day postdocs are forced to walk the picket line. That’s why we are planning to hold a lunchtime rally to show Queen’s that the community has Postdoc’s backs! If you are not local and would like to join us, please reach out so we can help arrange transportation. Either way, we appreciate your RSVP.
Your support will make a meaningful difference in our fight. Please do not hesitate to contact vppd.psac901@gmail.com and president.psac901@gmail.com if you would like further information or templates for letters of solidarity.
In solidarity,
PSAC 901
