Ford’s Conservative government has a long track record of undermining workers’ rights. They have cancelled the $15 minimum wage, eliminated permanent paid sick days, severely limited wage and benefit increases for public sector workers with Bill 124, and allowed employers to override collective agreements and fair processes with Bill 195.
Ford’s attacks on workers have severely impacted those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. These attacks have disproportionately impacted women, racialized, and low-income workers. While COVID-19 revealed how essential PSWs, childcare workers, nurses, and educators are, these workers continue to be denied better pay and their right to free and fair collective bargaining.
