As Ontario faces an impending 4th wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, students, parents, and education workers deserve adequate protection as schools reopen. Instead, Ford’s Conservative government has failed to put in place an adequate plan to ensure a safe return to school. We’re demanding that Ontario’s Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce, put in place the safety measures that experts and health officials recommend to ensure our schools are safe. That means:
- Smaller class sizes. We need class sizes capped at 15 to follow distancing guidelines and provide enough one on one support for students
- A comprehensive range of precautions. We need precautions like improved and sufficient ventilation to reduce airborne transmission of COVID-19
- Permanent paid sick leave. Safe and healthy schools require safe and healthy communities. No one should ever have to go to work sick just to put food on the table.
