I would like to invite you to the unveiling of a bronze statue of Jack Layton on the anniversary of his passing. This event will coincide with the City of Toronto’s official naming of the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal and was made possible through the generous donations of hundreds of labour unions, businesses and individuals. We are also grateful to the City of Toronto for the donation of land at the waterfront of the city that Jack loved and served.
Master sculptor David Pellettier and the renowned team at MST Bronze Limited have created a life-sized bronze statue of Jack sitting on the back seat of a tandem bicycle, with room on the front seat for visitors to have their picture taken “riding with Jack.” No one will miss the significance of Jack riding in the back seat of the bicycle because Canadians know that Jack always had their back. You can be among the first to see it.
This will be an historic event with Olivia Chow, members of the Layton Family and representatives of the City of Toronto present to receive this wonderful gift from the labour movement and supporters to the people of Canada.
The statue will be unveiled at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal Entrance (9 Queen’s Quay West) at 11:45 am.
