Job Opportunity: Secretary-Administrative Assistant

 

The Ontario Federation of Labour represents 54 unions and is the voice of working people across the province. The OFL pushes for legislative changes numerous policy areas including employment standards and minimum wage, health, education, workplace safety, human rights, women’s rights, workers’ compensation and pensions.

The OFL is seeking a new secretary/administrative assistant to join the staff of the Federation.

Join a small, dynamic team of elected leaders, social justice advocates and other skilled staff at the OFL. The successful candidate would begin in early December and work out of the OFL office in the North York area of Toronto.

LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario

REMUNERATION:

Salary: $66,930.76 plus COLA and benefits commensurate with the Collective Agreement/ approximately 35 hours a week. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The successful candidate must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and computer skills, be a team-player and able to work in a challenging environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing all secretarial functions;
  • Typing, editing and formatting reports, briefs, documents, speeches, letters to government and general correspondence;
  • Taking and transcribing minutes of meetings;
  • Working with databases;
  • Setting up meetings and travel arrangements;
  • Helping to organize conferences and other events;
  • Administrative duties associated with and at the OFL’s biennial convention;
  • Staffing the reception area, including answering the phone and taking messages;
  • Maintaining appropriate filing systems;
  • Cross-training on printing and other functions;
  • Special projects as assigned;

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience;
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Express);
  • Strong language and editing skills;
  • Ability to learn new technology such as WordPress, NationBuilder, social media applications, and others;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Maintain correspondence and files for directors and others;
  • The ability to be a self-starter and work independently;
  • Proficiency in other languages, particularly French, will be considered an asset;
  • A commitment to social justice, workers’ rights and the trade union movement.
