Joint OFL/ONIWG WCB Conference & March: Honouring 100 Years of Workers’ Compensation

The Ontario Federation of Labour and Ontario Network of Injured Workers Groups are sponsoring an exciting Workers’ Compensation conference, June 1-2 at the USW Hall in downtown Toronto.  The purpose of this conference is to celebrate 100 years of Workers Compensation, to assess the relevance of the fundamental principles of our current system and to set goals and actions engaging injured workers and WCB activists.

As well, we will review recent changes at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), discuss problematic sections of the legislation and policy, and strategize efforts to lobby the government with our system partners to make the system fairer for injured workers.

Joint OFL/ONIWG WCB Conference & March

Honouring 100 Years of Workers’ Compensation
United Steelworkers Hall, 25 Cecil Street, Toronto, June 1&2, 2015

We will begin the conference with a rally at Queen’s Park on June 1st at 11:00 am, marking the 32nd Anniversary of Injured Workers’ Day followed by a march to the Ministry of Labour. We are seeking endorsements from unions and community organizations for the rally and march, so if your group would like to add its name to our list of endorsers, please email Aidan at macdonald@lao.on.ca. We would also request that you send the rally callout – which will be released shortly – to your members and encourage them to come out.

The conference will be held at the United Steelworkers Hall, 25 Cecil Street, Toronto. A registration fee of $200 is set for delegates. Please make cheques payable to “Injured Workers Consultants” and add Workers Compensation Conference in the memo line.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the University of Toronto Residence, 89 Chestnut Street and will be held until May 11, 2015 at a rate of $99 single or double occupancy.  To reserve a room please call the hotel directly at 416-977-0707, extension 0 or by e-mail to frontdesk.chestnut@utoronto.ca and indicate you are part of the conference.
