Today’s Legislative vote on labour law reform will be a test of the new relationship between the Liberals and the NDP

(TORONTO, ON) — “McGuinty’s Liberals relied on the support of the NDP to pass the Ontario Budget and they will continue to rely on this partnership in the weeks and months ahead,” said OFL President Sid Ryan. “The vote this afternoon on labour law reform will be a test of the new relationship between the Liberals and the NDP.”

Bill 77, the Fairness for Employees Act, was introduced by NDP Labour Critic Taras Natyshak as part of a package that could begin the process of transforming Ontario’s outmoded labour laws to some of Ontario’s lowest paid workers and most vulnerable workers.

“Approving today’s bill for second reading will demonstrate whether the McGuinty Liberals are willing to work in partnership with the NDP to represent all the people of Ontario,” said Ryan.

The public gallery of Queen’s Park will be packed today by the province’s union leaders to see how the Liberals handle this new relationship.
