Support Time to Care Act, Bill 188

CUPE Ontario’s “Time to Care” campaign has been leading the charge to change the standard of care in long-term care homes. NDP MPP France Gélinas tabled a private members bill, but it needs public action to win government support. The  Email your local Member of Provincial Parliament to call on them to support Bill 188, the Time to Care Act (Long-Term Care Homes Amendment, Minimum Standard of Daily Care), 2016.

Please support Time to Care Act, Bill 188

Dear MPP,

As a constituent in your riding, I am writing to ask you to support Bill 188, the Time to Care Act (Long-Term Care Homes Amendment, Minimum Standard of Daily Care), 2016. This Bill, introduced on April 20, 2016, would amend the Long-Term Care Homes Act so that long-term care homes will have to provide each resident with at least four hours a day of hands-on nursing and personal support services.

As you know, nursing home residents are an aging and frail population. Many have dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and are not getting the time and care they really need.

Under the current circumstances, residents spend hours alone waiting for their daily needs to be met, often sitting in their own unchanged clothing as workers run off their feet trying to do the best they can with the resources they have. More often than not, those resources are completely inadequate. This is not an acceptable situation for our loved ones and family members who in many cases are dying without their dignity.

This issue is very important to me and my family and I hope you will support this important Bill that will provide nursing home residents with the care and respect that they deserve.

Sincerely,
