Memories and Movements in African Canadian History will recognize the 100th anniversary of the death of freedom fighter Harriet Tubman and celebrate the Steelpan movement, which was born out of resistance and through its resilience continues to play an active role in the lives of Canadians.

A display will be hosted in the main lobby of OFL Building (15 Gervais Drive, Toronto) on February 6 and 7 with an evening reception starting at 6:00 pm on February 7.

Do you like music? Want to try something fun? Have you ever dreamed of playing in a steelband? Do you need bragging rights? Join us in the lobby area for Steelpan instruction.

Feb 7 only, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm: Reception & Performance

Join in the African History Month reception and celebration taking place in the lobby.

Enjoy the rhythm of a live steelband. With host and moderator Itah Sadu (renowned author and owner of a Different Booklist)

Followed by “From Oil Drum to Steelpan” – A demonstration on the making of a Steelpan.
