DRIVE TO WORK CARAVAN LAUNCHES IN OSHAWA MONDAY, JUNE 8
Time, Date & Location:
Monday, June 8, 2009 - 9:00 a.m.
Lakeview Park, Jubilee Pavilion (Lakeview Avenue and Birchcliffe)
Rally/Pancake Breakfast
Job Loss Tour - 10:30 a.m.
After the launch the DRIVE TO WORK CARAVAN will do a job loss tour of AG Simpsons, PPG, GM Truck Plant, Woodbridge Foam, Syncron, Lear Seating and Johnston Controls.
“We want people and communities to know that the OFL is listening,” says Irene Harris, OFL secretary-treasurer who will be on the DRIVE TO WORK CARAVAN travelling the province gathering the stories, letters and ideas along the way. “From community to community we will listen to what people living through these critical economic times have to say. We will gather your messages and bring them to the Premier.”
“It’s time to put a face to the statistics. And we want the people of Oshawa to know that no one and no community is alone in this struggle.”
“People and communities are feeling isolated. What’s happened here with GM and Chrysler is a travesty. Just as the thousands of jobs that have been lost here have had a devastating effecting so too are the 20 or 30 jobs lost in smaller communities when the last mill closes its doors,” Harris says. “We’re going to travel the province and we are going to listen.”
