Canadian Environmental Defence Fund

The Canadian Environmental Defence Fund (CEDF) is a national charitable, non-profit organization founded in 1984 in order to help citizens gain access to environmental justice. Its purpose is to provide fund-raising assistance, legal, scientific, planning and engineering referrals and organizational support to grass-roots groups pursuing nationally significant environmental law cases.

Canadian Environmental Law Association

The Canadian Environmental Law Association (CELA) is a non-profit, public interest organization established in 1970 to use existing laws to protect the environment and to advocate environmental law reforms. It is also a free legal advisory clinic for the public, and will act at hearings and in courts on behalf of citizens or citizens’’ groups who are otherwise unable to afford legal assistance. Funded by Legal Aid Ontario.

Canadian Institute for Environmental Law and Policy

To provide leadership in the research and development of environmental law and policy that promotes the public interest and the principles of sustainability.

Clean Air Alliance

Recognizing the need for reducing air pollution from the electricity sector, The Ontario Clean Air Alliance (OCAA) was formed in August, 1997. The OCAA is a diverse, multi-stakeholder coalition of 80 organizations. Our members include cities, health associations, environmental and public interest groups, public utilities, religious organizations and individuals. The OCAA is working for cleaner air through strict emission limits for the electricity sector and a phase-out of Ontario Power Generation’s five dirty coal-fired power plants.

Conservation Council of Ontario

The Conservation Council of Ontario is a province-wide association for organizations and individuals dedicated to a healthy environment.

Environmental Commissioner of Ontario

In February 1994, the Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR) came into effect in Ontario charged with the responsibility for protecting, conserving and restoring the natural environment.

Federation of Ontario Naturalists

Since 1931, The Federation of Ontario Naturalists (FON) has fought for the creation of parks and protected areas, the preservation of wetlands and woodlands, the protection of threatened species and the responsible management of public lands.

Great Lakes United

Great Lakes United (GLU) is an international coalition committed to promoting and coordinating basin-wide initiatives to protect and restore the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River.  Through a broad network of organizations and individuals, GLU pursues the development and implementation of policies and actions that support the health of the world’s largest freshwater ecosystem and its communities.  GLU covers the entire Great Lakes basin, including 8 U.S. states and 2 provinces and is uniquely positioned to lead multi-jurisdictional, precedent-setting campaigns.

Ontario Electricity Coalition

The Ontario Electricity Coalition unites organizations and individuals committed to protecting at-cost, reliable, electricity in Ontario. The Coalition calls for truly accountable, publicly owned, environmentally responsible electrical utilities.

Ontario Environmental Network

The Ontario Environment Network provides a unique forum for Ontario environmental organizations, helping them build environmental awareness throughout the province. By linking environmental groups together, the OEN assists them in sharing ideas and strategies. Environmental organizations have a tremendous opportunity to improve their effectiveness by working with other groups through the OEN. The voice of the environmental community is strengthened through these cooperative efforts.

Pollution Probe

Pollution Probe is a Canadian environmental organization that defines environmental problems through research; promotes understanding through education and presses for practical solutions through advocacy. Pollution Probe is dedicated to achieving positive and tangible environmental change.

Sierra Legal Defence Fund

Faced with a rapidly growing array of environmental threats in Canada, and impressed with the effectiveness of litigation as a means of environmental protection, conservationists foresaw the need for an organization with a mandate to provide free legal services to environmental groups and concerned citizens. Thus, in December 1990, the Sierra Legal Defence Fund was launched.
