2nd Gathering of the OFL ABORIGINAL CIRCLE, JUNE 17 to 19, 2011 – REGISTER NOW!

Walking In Our Moccasins is the second Aboriginal Gathering sponsored by the Ontario Federation of Labour’s (OFL) Aboriginal Circle. It will be held in Port Elgin from June 17-19, 2011 and it is open to all trade union members and community members.

Guest Speakers:

Roseann Martin is a traditional Mi’gmaw from Listuguj, Quebec and is better known in Ottawa as “Grandmother Rose” at the Wabano Aboriginal Health Centre. She will be speaking on Residential Schools and “Apigsigtoagen” forgiveness in Mi’gmaq and her own journey.

Ezra Blackbird is a proud two-spirited youth presenter who will be speaking about HIV/AIDS and how Aboriginal communities must continue to advocate and educate and encourage the unions to support this cause.

Dion Metcalfe is an urban Inuit works who for Ottawa Inuit Children’s Centre and will be presenting on issues that affect today’s Youth. She will be speaking on the importance of educating, motivating and retaining Aboriginal cultures. Dion will also be sharing a variety of Inuit games. 

This year’s Gathering will focus on five interactive workshops:

1.  HIV/AIDS
2.  Youth
3.  Residential Schools and Forgiveness
4.  Traditional Crafts and Teaching
5.  Traditional Ways of Life and Living

Participants are requested to select three workshops, please note workshops selections will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis and that workshop preferences cannot be guaranteed for later registrations.

Please fill out the registration forms attached and remember to follow the instructions to make your own room reservations at the CAW Family Education Centre. Follow the instructions in the forms attached.
