UPDATE: The new collective agreement was ratified on October 6, 2017.

A tentative agreement was reached between the Laurentian University Faculty Association (LUFA-APPUL) and the employer October 5. Click here to read more.

The Laurentian University Faculty Association (LUFA) has been working hard to negotiate a fair collective agreement that supports its members and protects the integrity of education at Laurentian University.

LUFA presented the university with an offer to reach a deal and avert a strike. Rather than responding to the offer, the university left the negotiations and sent a general public announcement at 10:50 pm stating that an impasse had been reached.

That means that, as of now, Laurentian faculty are on strike.

LUFA is asking the administration for a fair settlement that addresses faculty concerns by:
• re-investing in research and the classroom, including a fair faculty workload;
• increasing the openness and transparency with which the university operates; and
• protecting and promoting a positive, enriching learning environment for our students.

“We would rather be in the classroom, teaching our students”, said Jim Ketchen, President of the LUFA, “but we are willing to strike as long as it takes to make sure the university steps up and re-invests in the high-quality education students and parents expect and deserve.”

LUFA remains committed to reaching a deal at the table, and is hopeful that the university administration will finally put forward an offer that addresses faculty concerns and ends this strike.
